Switzerland 2019

Wednesday 26th June to Monday 1st July

Our base will be the Hotel Bahnhof, Reichenbach im Kandertal - with rooms overlooking the station reserved at a very attractive rate.

£55 per night, including breakfast and taxes.

Wednesday 26th June

Arrive into Reichenbach im Kandertal.

Evening welcome get together meal & drinks.

Thursday 27th June

Visits to SBB Depots/Workshops.

10:00 - Visit to Olten Works, hopefully including the SBB Historic loco area.

14:00 - Visit to Biel/Bienne Works.

Evening free.

Friday 28th June

08:19 departure from Reichenbach for a comprehensive visit to the TTE Emosson-Barrage tourist railway, including both funicular railways, and narrow gauge line of the former Power Station.

For those interested, time permits to cover the cross-border line into France at Vallorcine.

Saturday 29th June

A visit to “The Worlds Steepest Railway” The Stoosbahn Funicular Railway. We travel via Luzern and Schwyz (for a short bus ride to the lower station on the Stoosbahn).

Time permits to ride the line (with gradients of up to 110%), have lunch at the summit, and/or take a ride on the two cable cars which are located here.

We return to Brunnen, where we take a leisurely 2-hour late afternoon SteamBoat cruise across the lake back to Luzern, before returning to our base via Bern.

Sunday 30th June

Morning departure to Zurich, for the regular SZU service to Sihlwald.

Connect into SZU steam-hauled service back to Zurich Wiedikon (rare track) and then back to Sihlbrugg (only used by 5 steam services per year, so again it’s unusual track).

Finish at 13:15 in Sihlwald, with options to either do a second steam run (finish at 16:15) or afternoon travel back to Zurich and Reichenbach.

Options to return to the UK also.

Monday 1st July

Return to UK (if not done Sunday).
