Midland Railway Centre - Ale on the Rails Butterley Saturday 18th July 2026

A visit to the – Butterley for the ‘Ale on the Rails event.


This weekend will feature both steam and diesel locomotives from the Midland Railway Centre fleet alongside visiting locomotives.


Alongside this, the railway will feature a beer festival, bus rides around the site, Diesel Roller can crush, Road Transport displays, West Shed experience, Butterley Park miniature railway, Road steam display, live band, food vendors & Rail vehicles from the railway’s historical collection outside on display.  For further details see: Ale on the Rails

National Rail Tickets to Derby

At the time of writing the cheapest  tickets are as follows on the 09.02 from St Pancras International and 16.06 from Derby

These are quota-controlled advance tickets - so booking as early as possible is recommended to obtain the ticket at the lowest tier.  Note these tickets must be used on the booked train.

The cheapest ticket on the day, valid on any train for the outward and return journey is an super off peak return for £83.60 or £55.20 with a railcard.

Book with East Midlands Railway or any National Rail Operator.  DO NOT use thetrainline or other similar third party sites as you will pay more as these sites charge fees which National Rail Train Operator websites and some third party websites do not charge.

Use a railcard if at all possible to save 33% of the ticket price, see Railcard.  Railcards typically cost £35 and last a year, including the Two Together Railcard for two people of any age travelling together.

Cost

Tickets on the Midland Railway are £18 with no priv or senior discount.  Bus are £3 each way without concessionary pass.
