The May
1938 visit to Ireland and
Scotland. This must have been quite a week!! Included on the visit was a tour
round G.N.R. (Eire) Dundalk Works, L.M.S. (N.C.C.) York Road Works in Belfast, Harland
& Wolff's Ship Building Yards in Belfast, a tour around the Co. Antrim Coast, the
North British Locomotive Works in Glasgow, L.N.E.R. Works at Cowlairs, the Empire
Exhibition at Glasgow, a Co-operative Wholesale Society's Warehouse (!) and a walk over
the Forth Bridge. If that was not enough, the Locomotive & Carriage Institution
was given civic receptions by the Lord Mayor of Belfast and the Lord Provost in
Glasgow. Much of what was visited is now history - an interesting read. |
