February 2010

Our successful AGM was recently held at the Seaton Tramway in Devon on 23rd February.

At the AGM:

An small update to the Institution's Rules was agreed so as to allow future AGM to be held between March and the first Tuesday in June so as to increase the activeness of the AGM by holding it when the days are longer.

The Institution's Council, were all re-elected.

January 2010

Spring and Sumner 2010 Programme:

Most of the events for Spring and Summer 2010 are now confirmed, see our Events Calendar for further details.

These include lectures by Mark Allatt, Chairman, A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, Peter Brown, Department for Transport and our own Alan Spencer.

We also have a number of visits arranged including walks and  talks to view railway history and days out for family and friends, including more 'parent friendly' weekend visits following requests by members.

April 2009

2009 - 2010 Lecture Programme:

We are pleased to announce some prominent speakers for the 2009-2010 lecture programme including:

Adrian Shooter from Chiltern Railways who be delivering a lecture on Chiltern Railways;

Gordon Pettitt.  Former General Manager, British Rail Southern Region who be delivering a lecture Development of High Speed Railways in the World;

Mark Allatt, Chairman, A1 Steam Locomotive Trust  who be delivering a lecture The Tornado Story.

 

January 2009

AGM January 2009:

Our successful AGM was recently held at the Middleton Railway at Leeds on 6th January.

The AGM determined:

An update to the Institution's Rules . The significant changes included: clarification on the use of an educational free pass for attending some Institution events; updates to the duties of some Council posts and introduction of the option of becoming a retired life member and a revision to the requirements for calling and holding a Special General Meeting.

bullet

Some changes to the Institution's Council, including the appointment of a new chairman, Alan Spencer, a new Vice Chairman, John Lunn and Stuart Smith as the Institution Secretary - formally Acting General Secretary;

bulletAn increase of annual Membership subscriptions by £2 for active members and £1 for retired costs, to reflect increased costs, particularly in postage.  The new rates are £15 for active members (or 29p per week for those paying by paybill deduction) and £7 for retired members.  However, the new rates are not yet active - and the existing rates (£13 active members and £6 retired members) still apply until further notice.
