Annual General Meeting & Lunch

at the Middleton Railway

Including optional lunch and special tour of the line by Steam Train

All members are invited to attend the Institution's AGM, which will commence at 11.30 on Tuesday 6th January 2009 in the Conference Room, Middleton Railway, The Station, Moor Road, Leeds, LS10 2RQ

Situated 2 miles from the centre of Leeds, the Middleton Railway was established in 1758.  Operated by volunteers since 1960, the railway has been in continuous use for 250 years.

Members will be able to visit the Engine House to view the fine collection of industrial locomotives, many of which were built in Leeds.  Please note that the Engine House is not heated, though the rest of the building does have central heating.

There is an optional buffet lunch followed by a special tour of the entire line by steam train *.

* Note if the steam train is unavailable a Drewry Railcar maybe used instead.

Cost & Booking:  

There is no charge to just attend the AGM.

For a lunch and trip on the line the cost is £21.00

Tickets are only available to Locomotive and Carriage Institution members. 

Travel to the Middleton Railway:

We intend to provide a bus, possibly vintage, to convey as many members as possible from Leeds station to the Middleton railway and back.  Further details will be displayed here shortly.

It is also possible to travel by taxi or the following bus services: service 61 from Leeds Station (Park Row), alight at Beza Street; Service 481 from Leeds Station (Neville Street) alight Moor Road or Services 2 or 3 from Corn Exchange alighting at the junction of Dewsbury Road and Turnstall Road.

For those without protected travel facilities, early booking is recommended to secure the quota-controlled advance purchase tickets at the lowest fare.  Currently (end of October 2008) the lowest available fares from London on the 08.10 service is £9.50 outwards and £10 when returning on 15.40 train (£19.50 total).  With railcard discount this drops to just £6.65 each way, a total of £13.30 return.  Note these are cheaper than 'priv' fares, but you must travel on the booked train.  Book at: National Express East Coast
